Well to carry on from a post below about my 606-8A ceiling speakers, they arrived today, via UPS, in large cartons. The packing was nothing more than the Duplex face down in the box with some large hunks of styrofoam on the sides and foam peanuts SHOVELED into to the rest of the carton. One came through in fair shape but the other had so many peanuts under the rim of the frame that the cone is pushed forward about 1/8 inch. My question is will the cones recenter themselves with time or will they need a little help from me and is there a safe way to remove what's left of the foam peanuts still sticking to that gooey surround dope Altec used. To say the least I am PISSED but at least the voice coils don't seem to rub and the cones were not ripped. Thanks for any advice

Sorry..I mistakenly typed 606-8A, it should have been 616-8A.

Just give the cones some time. The only way to get the styro out of the surround goo is mechanically, pick it out, tedious, yes. You might try a little MEK with and artist's brush, but be very careful. The cones will want to go back to where they have been for so many years. I may take a day or two at room temperature. Good luck and enjoy. Jim
